“If you want to attack, attack me, not my Dalit brothers”. If you want to shoot, shoot me, not my Dalit brothers, stop politics over Dalits. “Remember, the day I shared dias with you at Ludhiana in 2009 where you assured that Telangana movement will reach its goal”, Telangana CMO tweeted Rao as saying.

“There can not be more direct censure by the Prime Minister in expressing his displeasure to what anti-social elements are doing in the name of “Gau Raksha”, BJP National Secretary Sidharth Nath Singh said.

He turned emotional while addressing thousands of party workers at L. B. Stadium.

Modi’s choice of Hyderabad to denounce the attacks on Dalits seems significant as his Government had come under Opposition fire following the suicide by Dalit research scholar Rohith Vemula in the city that had triggered campus unrest in several parts of the country.

Modi’s comments come at a time when his government and BJP are facing flak over incidents of violence against Dalits and Muslims by cow vigilantes in various states including Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

Modi said at times some incidents come to notice which give us “unbearable pain”.

Lashing out at the Opposition parties for treating Dalits as a vote bank, Modi said, “Some people who think they control Dalit votes could not digest people getting to know about BJP’s good work”.

PM Modi spent a little over four hours in Telangana, during which he launched Mission Bhageeratha – the prestigious drinking water project.

In an effort to assuage the hurt feelings of dalits across the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called upon his countrymen to treat them with dignity and not hate them.

He told BJP workers that it was their responsibility to protect Dalits and other oppressed sections of the society. “We must stop this”, he said.

He also stressed that society should not be allowed to be divided on the basis of caste and community.

Modi said the political pundits should start looking Telangana’s political future from a new angle just as they started viewing Indian politics differently after BJP held a historic meeting in Hyderabad in 2013, where people attended the meeting by buying tickets.
