IFixit Gives the Nexus 5X Its Teardown Treatment

One of the reasons why it is deemed easy to fix is because several of the phone’s components are modular, suggesting if a few parts break, these can be replaced individually. Now we see a great refresh of that great smartphone in the Google Nexus 5X, still made by the same Korean gadget manufacturer, but adding a nifty feature set to the popular name.

At the end of this phone murder, iFixit has given the Nexus 5X a repairability score of 7 out of 10, which isn’t bad. The battery is also easy to remove though it takes a bit of work to get to it. The only real issue is LG’s decision to fuse the LCD and glass cover together, meaning if one cracks you’ll have to replace them both. Standard Phillips screws are also used, which means a usual Phillips screwdriver is all that is necessary to open the device. The 12.3-megapixel rear sensor with 1.55 μm pixels is a Sony IMX377 unit while the 2 GB of RAM (in the disassembled model) is produced by Samsung.

The Nexus 5X has begun shipping to customers in the United States, as well as to other countries included in the initial rollout. The folks at iFixit have just given the Nexus 5X the teardown treatment, revealing all the components that make up this new mid-tier flagship. Finally, the decently-sized 2700mAh non-removable battery nearly appears to be removable but isn’t.

But apart from getting a look inside of the device for the first time, the teardown doesn’t reveal many details we didn’t already know. And Qualcomm supports the Nexus 5X’s new USB-Type C connector, so it’s still a possibility, the feature could be enabled for the device in the future.
