IKEA to open store in Indianapolis area

Swedish furniture retailer IKEA is set to announce plans for its first store in the Hoosier state. He says the store won’t open until after morning rush hour and IKEA’s slower hours are between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. He says 50% of IKEA’s business is on the weekends.

“We are excited at the prospect of growing our Midwest presence with an Indianapolis-area store”, said IKEA USA president Lars Petersson. In addition to retail, the store will feature a 350-seat restaurant and children’s play area.

Currently, IKEA has 41 stores across the country and the nearest to central IN is a store outside of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Fadness said the city is considering waiving the impact fees for the project, given the projected investment from IKEA is about $40 million.

Construction of the store, which is expected to open in the fall of 2017, will create 500 jobs, and when it’s built, it will employ 250 people, company officials said Tuesday during a press conference.
