IL unemployment rate hold steady while state adds jobs

The city’s unemployment rate fell to 4.8 percent in October-its lowest level since February of 2007. Unemployment is down 3.3 percentage points since Mayor de Blasio took office, and with average weekly earnings up, more New Yorkers are now in better position to support their families. The US unemployment rate in October was 5 percent.

In the years right after the recession – that ended in 2009 – the state’s labor force and the number of employed Arkansans declined most months.

It marks the fifth straight month of a declining unemployment rate according to information released by the Department of Workforce Services on Friday.

None of the local data is seasonally adjusted.

Tennessee’s jobless rate is still above the national unemployment rate of 5 percent, however.

The unemployment rates for Grand Island, Lincoln and Omaha have not been seasonally adjusted, so they cannot be directly compared with the state unemployment rate.

The US preliminary rate for October was 5 percent, 0.1 percent lower than the prior month.

Stanislaus County led the way in job growth, adding 6,400 jobs from October 2014 to October 2015. Economists say there is little scope for claims to drop further as the labor market approaches full employment.

Two industries that declined were private educational services and transportation, warehousing and utilities. Leisure and hospitality added 800 jobs.

“For the second month in a row CT has shown job losses, possibly indicating a softening of the strong growth we have seen through August of this year”, said Andy Condon, director of research at the state Department of Labor.

Year over year, seven major Arkansas industry sectors reported growth and four declined.

Other sectors with large job increases since the same time previous year were professional, scientific and technical services, along with healthcare and social assistance. The construction sector also grew by 3,500 jobs over the past year.
