Ilkay Gundogan enjoys “perfect day” on long-awaited Manchester City debut
Ilkay Gundogan made an immediate impression on his Manchester City debut – but Sergio Aguero made a bigger mark on him.

“I’m not the right person to say it’s going to happen”.
“I have been thinking about it [playing Gundogan] for the last two days, I don’t know”.
However, Aguero will have to sit out Saturday’s Premier League game at home to Bournemouth as he serves the second game of a three-match domestic suspension. “We knew they’d press us high, particularly the first 25 minutes, and exert their power on us”. Guardiola said. “These are players you want to stay because they have the passion to play at the club”. We didn’t stop the build-up of the opponent and in one-on ones and in defence we didn’t show the quality we have shown in previous campaigns.
“I’m really happy with the way we have started the season”.
Gundogan replaced David Silva in City’s starting lineup. It will be a hard game though, we’re going to have to be at the very top of our game and they may have to have a day where they don’t perform so well, if those two things happen then we have a chance’.
“I think, honestly, what these players have done since the beginning [of the season], in our games at home and away, our players deserve the stadium completely full”. “We spoke with him (before the game) and he said “I am ready”, said Guardiola, who added that Spain playmaker Silva has a minor injury and may not be fit for Saturday’s Premier League game against Bournemouth. “The schedule is the schedule, when you are in a big club you have to get used to playing every three days, it’s a good mentality”.
The match was put back 24 hours after a torrential downpour in Manchester forced a postponement and a crowd of 30,270 lapped up the latest thrilling display of Guardiola’s tenure.
“Obviously the Champions League is not easy, but our objective is to try to get where we got last season – the semi-final.
It was good for us to start our story with a victory”, said Ranieri, whose team bounced back from a 4-1thumping at Liverpool at the weekend.
Guardiola, a two-time Champions League victor with Barcelona, also called on City’s fans to end their practice of booing the competition’s anthem.
When asked if he had any comment, Guardiola said: “Nothing”. “I’m very happy about the result, about the game and I hope we’re going to carry on like that”.
