“The size of this class sends the signal that more and more people are coming to appreciate the value of what we do and are wanting to be part of it”, Gervasi said.
“Illinois State’s record-setting enrollment growth is a testament to the University’s strong reputation for academic quality and student support”. Those students just completed their third semester.
Meanwhile, Governors State University will close its Illinois Small Business Development Center and International Trade Center to cope with drastic cutbacks in state support due to Illinois’ budget crisis.
Key items – not filling five open full-time positions and eliminating two others, reorganizing into originally three, and now four, academic schools and boosting revenues by offering more online courses – were done or are in process.
“Since arriving at A&M-Texarkana, Ms. Williams has played a tremendous role in advancing the university by evaluating, updating and enhancing Enrollment Services processes”, said Dr. Cutrer. The loss of around 1,300 students translates into $6.5 million in lost revenue, but the university says it accounted for that in a prior cut to spending. “Overall, new student enrollment is up 2 percent; 142 more new students”.
Year-round campus started this year.
Illinois State University says its fall enrollment is up and the school has its largest freshman class in decades. Students represent 50 states and 54 nations and territories.
About one-fifth of the student population comes from traditionally underrepresented groups. Enrollment this fall is 15,987, compared to 17,292 a year ago.

“I’m extremely proud of our staff in Enrollment Management, Admissions, Financial Aid, the University Registrar’s office, University College, and University Housing for their hard work in recruiting another incoming class of motivated and academically talented students, and helping them to transition into their lives here at Illinois State”, said Dietz.
