Illinois State Police Searching for Shooter

The Illinois State Police has issued an alert for a man on the run after he allegedly shot a police officer on Saturday. He is considered armed and unsafe. The suspect then got into a fight with the second officer, who reportedly attempted to use a stun gun on the driver.

Law enforcement authorities are asking people to be on the watch for a man wanted in the attempted murder of a police officer in Mahomet in eats-central IL.

That vehicle was later found crashed into the gates of a business near Mahomet called Mid-America Sand & Gravel.

The truck was a two-door GMC 2500 pickup truck, according to NBC News, with the number “30070” painted on it. Anybody who sees the suspect or the truck is asked not to approach the suspect, but to notify 911. He remained at large Sunday.

Meanwhile the officer was taken to hospital and treated for his wounds before being released this morning and is now at home resting. He’s believed to be injured and “heavily armed and unsafe”, potentially with an AK-47, police said.

Mahomet Police told NBC affiliate WAND, of Decatur, Ill., that a Mahomet Officer had stopped 34-year old Darcy “Clint” Pendelton for a minor traffic violation just before 11:00 p.m. CT Saturday.
