Impactful coach, Pat Summitt, dies at 64

She said Summitt had already been given her Alzheimer’s diagnosis, and it was the first time she ever attended a professional tennis competition.
But most importantly, Summitt was a champion on and off the court.

Newton, one of the great guys in men’s college basketball, wanted to hire her to be a men’s coach. Her teams won eight national championships and an astonishing 1,098 games.

Krzyzewski said it is only fitting that the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame is located in Knoxville, Tennessee. “Until I went to the Mayo Clinic I couldn’t be for sure, but I can remember, you know, trying to coach and trying to figure out schemes and whatever, and it just wasn’t coming to me….” She uplifted the women’s game from obscurity to national prominence during her 38-year career at Tennessee.
It was nearly 30 years supporting Summitt and the Lady Vols full of good times that they are holding onto now. Summitt became the winningest coach in the history of Division I college basketball.
“(Summitt) came (to visit) and she didn’t even have to.
After winning a gold medal in the 1984 Olympics and being highly recruited by other schools, Gordon said Summitt “took a chance” and offered her a scholarship to the University of Tennessee.
