The U.S Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), which is an independent agency of the USA government, had previously issued a warning to urge consumers to turn off their Galaxy Note 7 devices immediately and to stop using them. CNET said that it “showcases Samsung’s best in design, battery life, speed and features”, and PC Magazine called it “undoubtedly one of the best phablets available”, using a word for smartphones approaching the size of small tablets.

U.S. consumer safety watchdog CPSC said owners should immediately stop using and power down the recalled Galaxy Note 7 devices.

Samsung already has voluntary recalled the devices, but the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is stepping in on a formal recall.

Thus far, the company has sold 2.5 million of the devices worldwide since launching them in August 2015. The Note series is one of Samsung’s most expensive, and demand for the phone had been high. “Our collaboration with the CPSC to fast-track a voluntary recall in the U.S. addresses safety concerns by ensuring we reach Note 7 owners quickly to exchange their devices”.

Brown says she ordered a cheap phone early summer knowing she was going to get the Note 7. Now the South Korean company President & COO, Tim Baxter issued a video message to consumers in the US. “We apologize, especially to those of you who were personally affected by this”.

The move by the United States safety agency formalizes the recall underway in 10 countries after reports of faulty batteries that caused some handsets to explode during charging. About 97 per cent of phones sold in the US are being recalled. Speaking of consumers, he added, “We really do want them to take advantage of it right away”.
