Impressive Sugar Bowl victory caps 10-win season for Mississippi
Ole Miss returns to the Sugar Bowl for the first time since 1970 when the Rebels defeated Arkansas with an Ole Miss great: Archie Manning.

Ole Miss also now has the No. 6 recruiting class in the country, according to 247Sports, including two of the top five players in the country in 5-star offensive tackle Gregory Litte and 5-star quarterback Shea Patterson.
Offense: Junior college transfer Chad Kelly brought a dual-threat, gun-slinging approach to the Rebels offense, throwing for 3,740 yards with 27 touchdowns and 12 interceptions while adding 427 rushing yards and a team-high 10 scores. Rudolph was sacked three times and had Ole Miss players in his face all night long. The Ole Miss quarterback finished the season with a total of 4,542 yards, placing him third in SEC history behind only Johnny Manziel’s 2012 (5,116) and 2013 (4,873) seasons. Kelly tossed for 251 yards and three touchdowns in the first half, while Treadwell hauled in a pair of touchdowns to increase the margin.
Without Robert Nkemdiche, who is suspended for Friday’s 7:30 p.m. game on ESPN, several Rebels will see drastically increased roles along Ole Miss’ line. The Cowboys eventually kicked a short field goal for a 3-0 lead. Left tackle Laremy Tunsil hauled in what was technically a lateral and trotted into the end zone, where he was mobbed by teammates and the many red-clad Ole Miss fans went wild. The rout was on. Kelly threw for 302 yards, ran for 73 yards, and broke the program record for touchdowns in a bowl game with four.
It wasn’t a flawless throw, and the big man had to nimbly adjust his route when the ball was in midair, but it eventually fell into his hands and he jogged untouched 2 yards for the touchdown as the Rebels ended the first half with a stunning exclamation point.
Chad Kelly’s evolution has made Ole Miss’ offense much more risky entering this game.
Kizer found Chris Brown for a four-yard score to pull Notre Dame within 28-21 midway through the third quarter, but Ezekiel Elliott answered with a 47-yard bolt, his fourth touchdown of the day.
After winning 10 straight games, Oklahoma State has lost their last two games.
The Rebels allowed an average of 192.1 passing yards per game last season, a mark that ranked 16th, following strong performances by defensive backs Senquez Golson and Cody Prewitt. Really good. And yes, Ole Miss beat Alabama early in the season. Ole Miss outgained Oklahoma State 554-366 in total yards. But it was played and it offers yet further proof of the disparity between good and decent teams in College Football.
In a game that figured to feature plenty of offense, the two defenses came up with some big plays early.

Treadwell and Tunsil – widely considered first-round prospects – are most likely to turn pro.

It was a celebration, a celebration of what those players have done in turning Ole Miss from an afterthought in the SEC to one that competes for SEC titles. “We have worked on that play for a couple of years, and I thought that could be somewhat of a dagger to end the half”.
