A former USA soldier who was jailed for revealing classified information to WikiLeaks has reportedly tried to take her own life.

Manning, a former intelligence analyst in Iraq, is serving a 35-year sentence after a 2013 military court conviction of providing more than 700,000 documents, videos, diplomatic cables and battlefield accounts to WikiLeaks.
“Reports of Chelsea’s suicide attempt are unconfirmed”, Strangio wrote on Twitter.
Manning, who is being held at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, was taken to hospital early this morning, reports CNN.
Most of the sensitive information was eventually published on the WikiLeaks website and in other media outlets. Manning is serving a 35-year prison sentence. The NY Post adds on that the “circumstances surrounding the suicide attempt were unclear”.

Three years prior to her sentencing, Manning sent an email to her supervisor, Master Sergeant Paul Adkins, claiming that she was suffering from gender identity disorder. She was cleared to begin hormone therapy while behind bars in February 2015, the AP reported.
In 2013, she asked to be recognised as a woman and previous year the Army agreed to provide her with hormone therapy. Fort Leavenworth officials declined to comment on the incident, citing HIPAA rules.
