“Money Monster” tells the story of a financial TV host Lee Gates and his producer Patty, who are put in an extreme situation when an irate investor who has lost everything forcefully takes over their studio.

But like the red carpet pro she is, the stunning 38-year-old rolled with the punches, whipping her dress around to different angles and leaning on her famous husband George Clooney for both moral and physical support.

Foster, who directed Money Monster, stood beside the film’s stars as the cameras snapped away on Tuesday. Later the Clooneys skipped the big private dinner at Michelangelo in Antibes (set for 90 people) and went to dine at another locale with friends.

“That’s the smack in the face, it’s nearly classist in a way, in that we told (millennials) that you could achieve something and actually you’re not going to be able to get a job”.

Clooney’s character Lee Gates is one of those cable news stars who probably hasn’t spoken to a non-celebrity in decades. “Ratings go up because they can show an empty podium saying ‘Donald Trump is about to speak, ‘ as opposed to taking those 30 seconds and saying, ‘Let’s talk about refugees, ‘ the biggest crisis in the world right now”.

Julia Roberts, Jodie Foster, George Clooney and Jack O’Connell all posed together at the photocall for thriller Money Monster at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France. “You kind of think that there’s these new waves of equality and waves of people realizing that women are just as fascinating and interesting to watch, and bankable”. Like Amal, it was her first Cannes, and she clearly wanted to be remembered for making a bold move, and not a misstep. Most of the time directors are very result-oriented. Kyle and Lee trade Howard Beale lines and postures here, while Wall Street is represented by Ibis’ arrogant, high-flying CEO Walt Canby (Dominic West) and his CCO and lover Diane Lester (Caitriona Balfe, the TV hit “Outlander”). A handler helped her back in the shoes after she made her way to the top.

Asked if that meant the film backed Clinton’s rival for the Democratic ticket, Bernie Sanders, Foster said, “I’m not sure if that’s a Bernie issue, if anything that’s more of a Trump issue”.

Clooney and Roberts say the film will have audiences on the edge of their seats.
