In fairness to Gary Johnson, even NY Times is clueless about Aleppo

Gary Johnson, the Libertarian Party candidate in the 2016 US presidential race, was questioned about a major flashpoint of the Syrian civil war on Thursday and asked, “What is Aleppo?”.

“And what is Aleppo?”.

Following the interview, Johnson attempted some damage control, releasing a statement that said he “blanked” when asked about Aleppo.

Barnicle, in seeming disbelief, said: “You’re kidding”.

“Aleppo is in Syria – it’s the epicenter of the refugee crisis”, Barnicle said. But when we align ourselves with – when we’ve supported the opposition of the free Syrian army, the free Syrian army is also coupled with the Islamists and then the fact that we’re also supporting the Kurds and this is, it’s just a mess. Bill Weld of MA, have been aggressively making the case that they represent a viable alternative for voters who are not happy with the major party nominees Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

On Wednesday, the 2012 Republican presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, tweeted for the first time in two months: “I hope to get to see former GOP Governors Gary Johnson and Bill Weld on the debate stage this fall”.

If you’re running for president of the United States it’s good to be caught up on current events, otherwise you run the risk of getting embarrassed like Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson recently was during an interview.

Asked about being a possible Ralph Nader-like spoiler, Johnson said, “Well, I genuinely believe that I have the opportunity to win at this point”.

After the MSNBC interview, Johnson told Bloomberg’s Mark Halperin “I am incredibly frustrated with myself”. “Aleppo is in Syria”.

As for Johnson, he issued a correction of his own. On Fox and Friends Friday morning, roving reporter Geraldo Rivera said Johnson offered up in one sentence just how unqualified he is to be president. Asked about the Libertarian candidate’s lack of knowledge about Aleppo during a news conference, she said, “You can look on the map and find Aleppo”. The hosts of “Morning Joe” dug in.

Johnson’s response: “What is Aleppo?”.

“I didn’t think it was that bad”, he said.

And as far as forgetfulness goes it may not compare to Democratic Party candidate Hillary Clinton forgetting some 20 times, as shown in the recently released transcript of her Federal Bureau of Investigation interview, about what she knew, who she met, or what she did with classified emails.

Therein, the magazine highlighted one embarrassing blunder the candidate has made – one that again raises questions about Johnson’s readiness to take the Oval Office… According to a report in the New Yorker, Johnson asked, “Who’s Harriet Tubman?”.

“There’s no excuse. I was thinking in terms of an acronym -Aleppo”, he explained. “I do understand Aleppo and I. understand the crisis that is going on”. Do I understand its significance?
