In ‘Final Olympic Race’, Michael Phelps Settles for Silver Medal
Singapore exploded in celebration on Saturday after homegrown swimming hero Joseph Schooling beat USA legend Michael Phelps in the 100m butterfly in Rio to win the tiny republic’s first ever Olympic gold.

Phelps insists he won’t be coming out of retirement again for Tokyo in 2020. She certainly has nothing to complain about after winning two golds, a silver and a bronze in Rio.
“I will just clarify that Ryan doesn’t know what he is talking about”, Phelps said. I held back a little bit on the podium but there were some (tears) that were popping down. Last warm-up. Last time putting on a suit.
However, Schooling wants Phelps to continue so that they can face-off once again in the hope that the Singaporean can get the better of his idol. “And yeah. I’m ready to spend some time with (baby son) Boomer and (fiancee) Nicole”.
After that, Phelps will hang up his cap – not the one he ripped in half before the 4×200 freestyle relay – and spend more time with his loved ones.
Phelps was beaten in his last Olympic individual race Friday night by a 21-year-old who grew up idolizing him.
But as a sendoff for Phelps, it might have meant more than any previous race. Anthony Ervin capped a remarkable personal journey with a gold in the 50 freestyle – 16 years after he won his first individual gold in the same event at the Sydney Games. He initially retired after the 2012 London Olympics, only to decide about a year later to return to the pool.
The comeback endured a huge setback with his second drunken-driving arrest in 2014, which led to Phelps being banned from the world championships the following year. “Can’t complain too much”, he said. I also think we played a bunch of cowards. “That human spirit, that capacity to heal”.
“This whole day has been kind of insane because it’s all of these little last things that I’ve gotten to do, like my last warmup with the girls at the training pool”, DiRado said.
They teamed up for a carpool karaoke video.
Took a starring role, in fact.
Then he and his teammates grabbed a sign that said, “Thank You Rio”.
Phelps dove into the pool in second place.
He wouldn’t be for long.
It wasn’t in doubt after that. The only question was how far ahead of that pace she would finish – and the answer was by almost two seconds.
RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL – AUGUST 12: Joint silver medalists, (R-L) Michael Phelps of United States, Chad Guy Bertrand le Clos of South Africa and Laszlo Cseh of Hungary celebrate winning silver in the Men’s 100m Butterfly Final on Day 7 of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games at the Olympic Aquatics Stadium on August 12, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. “It’s a nice number”. “Sharing that with three other women is just icing on the cake”. She took silver with 20.42m.
After her landmark victory in the 100 free, Manuel settled for silver this time in 24.09.
The Americans finished in three minutes, 27.95 seconds, an Olympic record, to win by 1.29 seconds.
Ryan Murphy led off by swimming a world record in the backstroke, giving the US a 1.7-second lead.
Nadal and Lopez defeated the Romanians 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 on Friday while American duo Steve Johnson and Jack Sock beat Canada’s Daniel Nestor and Vasek Pospisil 6-2, 6-4 to clinch bronze.
When Sarah Sjostrom – who has had a strong Olympics showing of her own – lost to Ledecky in the 200m freestyle earlier this week, she said she was content.
