Since U.S. -backed forces recaptured the strategic Syrian town of al-Shadadi in late February, a growing number of Arab fighters in Syria have offered to join the fight against the group, U.S. officials told Reuters in early April.
In his address, Obama said he would ask Great Britain, Germany, France and Italy to do more to contribute to the U.S.’s efforts.
Obama, who used one of his final foreign trips to start trying to shape his legacy, said in his speech he saw Europe facing a “defining moment”.
