In The Ivy :: Twins Promoting Miguel Sano
Buxton and Sano were widely acclaimed as not only the top two Twins prospects, but some of the most talented prospects in all of baseball. 250 range and little defensive value.

Sano has great power potential and we can certainly expect the strikeouts to come along with it. I feel he’s worth it though and if you have Byron Buxton resting on your bench right now, I’d switch from one top Twins prospect to the next. Twins DHes have hit just.250/.305/.357 on the year, however, thanks in large part to Opening Day DH Kennys Vargas (.244/.276/.365), who was demoted all the way to Chattanooga after failing to hit in his second big league stint of the year. He could provide 10-15 home runs down the stretch if he comes up and hits reasonably well, although that’s hardly a guarantee with any prospect.
MLB.com’s Rhett Bollinger first reported the promotion Wednesday afternoon, saying a “well-placed source” revealed that the right-handed Sano would be coming up.
And those extremely impressive Double-A numbers include a awful April, as Sano struggled to get back on track offensively and defensively.
The Twins are hoping that his bat makes an impact immediately, as they have struggled to produce runs for most of the season.
In his debut, Sano went 1-for-4 with an infield single in the ninth, which lead to the Twins’ second run in a 2-0 victory over the Royals.
Miguel Sano prepares for his big-league debut Thursday. He strikes out a ton, whiffing 149 times in 133 games at Double-A, and as a result his career batting average is a modest.278.
Minnesota summoned him to be their everyday designated hitter for that very goal, and in his first at-bat Sano tattooed a ball on a line to Kansas City center fielder Lorenzo Cain.
In 2013 at age 20, he hit a combined. He missed all of the last season after undergoing elbow surgery, but hit 35 homers in the minors in 2013.

For now, Sano needed to focus on his first major league hit. Getting into the. 280 range and contributing positively defensively – at third base or elsewhere – could make him an MVP-caliber monster. Vargas will take Sano’s spot on the Chattanooga roster. It’s possible that Sano will also see time at third base, allowing the team to rest Trevor Plouffe but still keep him in the lineup as the DH.
