Inbee Park wins golfing gold, Ko silver

By contrast, this week’s tournament drew all the top female players.

It was a sweet comeback for Park, who has missed tournaments in recent months due to a nagging thumb injury.

Now comes the real test.

Just as hard as the wind was seeing the name of Lydia Ko — the No. 1 player in women’s golf — right behind her.

After Rose shot the first ever hole in one in Olympic history, the ladies had three Aces over the course of the four days as Ko, China’s Lin Xiyu and Russia’s Maria Verchenova all holed out from the tee box during the week. Even people that don’t play golf, they actually get to see how great the Chinese players are. A tough 30 foot eagle putt on the par five 18th was missed which made it mathematically impossible to catch the golfers in third spot, though Lee did make the birdie to finish a highly creditable eight under par overall. She wound up with a 75 and was seven back.

Stacy Lewis went backward.

“Either way, it was a dramatic finish and I think we made it very exciting for the media and the fans and everybody who was watching worldwide”, said Ko, who shot a two-under 69 for the final round.

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) – Si Woo Kim followed his tournament-record 10-under 60 with a third-round 64 to increase his lead to four strokes in the Wyndham Championship. Three straight birdies at the 3rd, 4th, and 5th holes – and another at the par-3 8th worked to stretch out the gap between Park and playing partners Lydia Ko and Gerina Piller.

They weren’t the only players to struggle.

Catriona Matthew, Team GB’s other representative, shot 70 for tied 29th. I hit the ball good, I putted well.

She used a 7-iron for her hole-in-one on the par-3 eighth hole — the second of the day after Lin Xiyu of China made an ace on that hole — as the highlight of a front nine in which she shot 29.

Jim Furyk, Luke Donald and Kevin Na were 13 under.

Rafa Cabrera Bello was second after a 65 in the PGA Tour’s regular-season finale.

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. (AP) – Australia’s Curtis Luck birdied the third playoff hole to beat MI sophomore Nick Carlson in the U.S. Amateur semifinals.

Carlson, from Hamilton, Michigan, beat IL junior Dylan Meyer of Evansville, Indiana, 3 and 1, taking the lead with a birdie chip on the par-4 14th that he celebrated with a running, double fight pump. Maybe my bronze medal doesn’t mean that much to the whole number, but to myself, it means a lot, beacuse it’s back to Olympics after over 100 years. Now with Park possibly leaving the game there are players like Ko and Henderson and Jutanugarn already winning major titles.

If that’s it for Inbee Park, if the rumors are true and she is ready to walk away from competitive golf at 28, then the final burst of glory couldn’t have been any more fitting.
