“One Rio bound athlete’s “A” sample has been tested positive for a banned substance”.

However, neither NADA nor the Athletics Federation of India have confirmed whether the athlete has failed the dope test.

Dharambir, who was set to travel to Rio on Tuesday, didn’t do so, as he had failed a dope test conducted by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA).

Shot putter Inderjeet Singh’s confirmatory “B” sample also returned positive for banned substances, virtually ending his hopes to compete in the Rio Olympics. NADA has asked Dharambir whether he wants to get his “B” sample tested and he has seven days to get the procedure completed people aware of the issue said. He was earlier stripped of his 100m gold medal at the national inter-state championships in 2012 for evading a mandatory dope test. “The athlete has been informed about the same a couple of days back”, Navin Agarwal, NADA director general, told The Indian Express.

While Narsingh had claimed conspiracy and the NADA panel cleared him of dope charge, Inderjeet was not so lucky.

Now that his “B” sample has also tested positive, he will have to miss Rio Olympics beginning August 5, besides facing the prospect of being banned for four years under the new WADA Code.

“This is a conspiracy and there is something wrong in it”, Singh said. My sample has been tampered with.
