It seemed as if Bravo would be able to take the West Indies to lunch without any further loss, but he played at an outswinging delivery that he didn’t really need to, and ended up edging behind to keeper Wriddhiman Saha. It meant they were bowled out for 243, and had to bat again.

Antigua: India’s off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, whose bowling masterclass of seven for 83 enabled the visitors to record an emphatic win against the West Indies, is happy that he has been finally able to break the deadlock of getting a coveted “five-for” outside the sub-continent.

Virat Kohli became the first Indian captain to score a double century overseas as the visitors took firm control of the first Test against the West Indies with a solid batting display here.

Three players from India failed in the match. The two sides will next lock horns at Sabina Park in Jamaica from July 30.

Mohammed Shami picked up the crucial wicket of Darren Bravo just before lunch to peg West Indies back on day three of the first Test. Ravichandran Ashwin, who went wicketless in the first innings, provided India a much-needed breakthrough by removing Chandrika for 31. Have to bowl better, Shannon [Gabriel] bowled very well, [Devandra] Bishoo was decent, but have to bowl well for longer [than we did here].

Amit Mishra’s leg spin did for Bishoo, but the second of his two wickets would not come until the end of the innings as India’s quicks did the damage.

“I know if I have to get into the top seven or six I really need to tighten my game so I’ve really worked on it”. Then came the best moment for Ashwin, as a handsome delivery beat Samuels’ straight bat and knocked back his off-stump in the 42nd over.

“I believe their real tests will be when they play England, New Zealand, South Africa and Australia away from home”.

“In the second innings, I was constantly in touch with Anil bhai also about what is the right speeds to be bowling”, Ashwin said.

Ashwin, who had been promoted up the order and batted alongside double centurion Virat Kohli, was thrilled with his efforts with the bat, and hoped to keep improving upon his average of more than 33.
