India Calls for Unity against Terror in Asean Summit
Narendra Modi’s unusually bold message against Pakistan from consecutive multinational summits, urging global powers to impose sanctions on India’s delinquent neighbour, is not adventurism.

“We expect the worldwide community to speak and act in unity, and to respond with urgency to fight this menace”.
Modi again says “one nation producing, exporting terror” was posted in Top Story of TheNews International – https://www.thenews.com.pk on September 09, 2016 and was last updated on September 09, 2016.
“Rising export of terror, growing radicalization through ideology of hatred and spread of extreme violence define the landscape of common security threats to our societies”.
Mr. Modi reached Vientiane today on a two-day visit during which he will attend the 14th ASEAN-India Summit and the 11th East Asia Summit (EAS).
“We need to target not only terrorists but also their entire supporting ecosystem”.
“Clearly, someone funds and arms them and BRICS must intensify joint efforts not just to fight terror but to coordinate actions to isolate those who are supporters and sponsors of terror”, he had said, without naming Pakistan. This was followed by a surprise visit by Modi to Pakistan on December 25 previous year, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in more than a decade.
Pakistan is not a member of the East Asia Summit, which comprises the 10 members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations plus Australia, China, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea and the United States. China had scuttled New Delhi’s bid at the Plenary Session of NSG in June.
The comments, made with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang to his right, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to his left, and US President Barack Obama and Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev in the room, come amid the near-daily escalation of diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan.
Appreciating Prime Minister’s initiatives in economic reforms, President Obama said that passage of GST will unleash significant economic activity.
Obama said that he had always been a friend of India and would continue to be a “strong partner of India and help in any way I can”, according to sources.
The leaders will also exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest and concern.
In a Facebook post, he said, strategic partnership with ASEAN is also important for safeguarding and promoting India’s security interests and countering traditional and non-traditional security challenges in the region.

In his meeting with President Xi, Modi expressed concern over terrorism emanating from Pakistan’s restive regions of Giligit-Baltistan and Pakistani Kashmir where the China Pakistan Economic Corridor is coming up.
