India Chipchase murder: barmaid last seen ‘too drunk to enter club’

Inquiries into her disappearance led Northamptonshire Police officers to a property in Stanley Road in the St James area of the town, where her body was found. India lived with her mother Suzanne, 47, her brother Harry, 18, and sisters Pia, 15, and Honor, 11, in an upmarket suburb of Northampton.

The son of a former All Black has written of his loss after his girlfriend was found murdered in England.

A post-mortem examination on Monday confirmed Miss Chipchase died from neck injuries.

A 51-year-old reclusive bookkeeper appeared in court on Tuesday (local time) accused of murdering the doctor’s daughter after she was found strangled in his scruffy terrace house, the Daily Mail UK reported.

Police discovered India Chipchase, 20, in Edward Tenniswood’s Northampton home after she vanished on a night out clubbing with friends.

She had been reported missing the day before after a night out with friends.

Tenniswood, who lives in the street where the body was found, spoke only once during the brief hearing at Northampton Magistrates’ Court, to confirm that he understood the case would now be transferred to the Crown Court.

“I honestly can’t believe to think even now that you have left us in that way miss India eve Chipchase”, he said.

Principal Pat Brennan-Barrett said: “We are devastated to hear of the death of our former student India Chipchase”.

Miss Chipchase went on to complete a diploma in health and social care at Northampton College.

Chipchase’s former lecturer, Jo Forester, said: “She was a well-liked member of her group, by both staff and students, for her caring nature and sense of humour. God bless India and thoughts are with the entire family X”, a message by Cathy said on the Givealittle page. “Thoughts go out to her family”, Cohen said on Twitter.

More than 100 bouquets of flowers have been placed in memory of India Chipchase outside a Northampton pub where she worked as a barmaid.
