In his conversation with Basit, foreign secretary Dr. Jaishankar reminded Basit of Pakistan’s stated commitment, made in January 2004, “to not allow its soil or territory under its control to be used for terrorism against India”.
MEA Spokesman Vikar Swarup also said that India is ready to provide finger prints and DNA samples of the attackers if Pakistan wishes to investigate the attacks.
India said there was strong evidence that Pakistan’s territory was used by militants.
India offered to cooperate with Pakistan over the attack’s investigation.
They include: Global Positioning System devices found on the bodies of intruders, grenades with Pakistani markings and communication equipment and food items, medicines and clothes made in Pakistan, among others.
The ministry also said that beginning with the Pathankot airbase attack, there have been continuous attempts by militants to cross the Line of Control and global borders.
But the team later denied that there was conclusive evidence of the terrorists being from Pakistan. The press release states that these attempts “have been interdicted at or around the LoC” and resulted in the “elimination of thirty one terrorists”.
Jaishankar is reported to have told Basit that even as they were speaking, two encounters between terrorists and the Indian Army were underway at the border.

Following the tragedy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had strongly condemned the “cowardly terror attack” and assured the nation that those behind the “despicable attack” will not go unpunished. According to Swarup, Pakistan was presented with proof of the origin of the terrorists who were neutralised in the Uri terror attack. In the last two infiltration attempts, in Poonch and Uri, a total of eight terrorists were killed, four during each attempt.
