India Gave Befitting Reply to Cross-border Firing: Army chief

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Thursday saluted the indomitable courage and valour of the army on the occasion of 67th Army Day and said he was proud of their determination.

Army Day is celebrated annually on 15 January.

Army Chief Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag today said that confidence building measures undertaken by India and China to bring down the tension along Sino-India border are working well and both sides are coordinating with each other for constructive engagement. He added that good coordination between all defence forces, including Army, Navy and Air Force, was the most crucial aspect.

Our biggest strength are our soldiers; we are counted among the most professional forces in the world. He said a veteran directorate has been established to address the grievances of army veterans. Singh concluded by saying that modernisation of their weapons was very important.

The Indian soldiers have given “befitting reply” to the attacks, he said.
