India Has Five Institutions In Top 50 Of The Asia Rankings

The analysis measures performance of the top 250 universities in five nations that exert significant regional influence, and that cumulatively account for 42% of the world’s population.
Among Indian universities, IISC Bangalore is on top and continues to compete with the best of the BRICS universities. Last year, DU was ranked at 46th position.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Mukherjee pointed out that while assuming the office of President of India four years ago, he had described education as the alchemy that could bring India its next golden age.
China has emerged as the top higher education provider among BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) nations, with up to 86 institutions making the list of best universities, revealed QS Top Universities. A total of 1,29,481 scientific papers were published by Indian authors in 2015. Stating that challenges faced by the higher education sector can not be solved overnight, he stressed the need for technological solutions like the National Knowledge network.
Chinese universities confirmed their dominance in the rankings led by Tsinghua University (1st) and Peking University (2nd).
“The expanded rankings demonstrate India’s increasing strength in depth, successes that are based primarily on its research excellence”.
Established in 1990, QS has been regarded as one of three most influential global university rankings, along with Times Higher Education World University Rankings and Academic Ranking of World Universities.
This year, as many as 44 Indian Universities have made it to the list. “The academic interaction these Vice Chancellors have had with their counterparts was the most productive part of his visits”, said Mukherjee.
