The economic policy of the G20 summit in Turkey’s Antalya took on Sunday as leaders including US President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin had conversation on terror.
This, Mr. Modi said, was needed most in countries where it is most prevalent and highlighted the urgency for promoting broader peace and stability in West Asia and Africa.
“I propose that we consider how G20 can build support systems that focus on countries with maximum growth potential, help address specific bottlenecks there and facilitate implementation of country strategies”, he said, adding that the grouping of world’s top 20 economies including USA and China must continue to focus on infrastructure. “Isolate those who support and sponsor terrorism”, Modi said.
But the changing character of terrorism – global links, franchise rel’ations – offers new threat to pluralist and open societies.
Strongly condemning the Paris attacks, which have been owned by ISIS, Modi made a case for united global effort to combat the menace of terrorism.
Pressing for the need to delink terror from religion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said a few countries still use terrorism as “an instrument of state policy” and the world must act against radicalisation without any political consideration. “We should strengthen efforts to prevent supply of arms to terrorists, disrupt terrorist movements, and curb and criminalise terror financing. It aptly describes the ethos of our group”, he said at the BRICS Summit on the sidelines of the two-day G20 Summit here.
Welcoming the world leaders for the G20 Summit, Erdogan asked them to send “very strong, tough” message against terror. “And, this has come at a time of huge global challenges”, he said. He suggested G-20 countries strive not only to cut the use of fossil fuels but also to change lifestyles.
Speaking at the G20 summit, Modi also pitched for snapping the supply of arms and finance to terrorists.
