India hits back: Glorifying Burhan Wani shows Pakistan’s attachment to terror
In a speech that dwelled in most parts on the contentious Kashmir dispute, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday night at the General Debate of the 71st Session of the UN General Assembly accused India of brutally repressing an “indigenous uprising of the Kashmiris”.

In a reference to JeM chief Masood Azhar and Mumbaiterror attack mastermind Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi, Gambhir said terrorist entities and their leaders, including many designated by the United Nations, continue to roam thestreets of Pakistan freely and operate with State’s support. “Shows continued Pak attachment to terrorism”, the Indian ministry spokesman, Vikas Swarup, said on Twitter.
“Burhan Wani, the young leader murdered by Indian forces has emerged as a symbol of latest Kashmiri Intifada”, said PM remembering the separatist leader killed by Indian forces. It is shocking that a leader of a nation can glorify a self-advertised terrorist at such a forum.
The ‘Pakistan State Sponsor of Terrorism Designation Act (HR 6069) has been moved by two US lawmakers- Republican Ted Poe and Democrat Dana Rohrabacher- in the US House of Representatives to designate Pakistan a state sponsor of terrorism.
She said while Pakistan’snuclear proliferation record is markedby “deception and deceit”, it talks about restraint, renunciationand peace.
Talks between the two countries have repeatedly stalled over India’s demands for more information on the attack’s planners, but Pakistan says the Kashmir issue needs to be solved first.
Disputed Kashmir is claimed by both India and Pakistan in its entirety.
In this regard, the prime minister called for steps by the United Nations to undertake consultations with India, Pakistan and the true representatives of the Kashmiri people to implement the resolutions of the Security Council.
“The persistent and growing violation of this undertaking is a matter of very serious concern”, Jaishankar noted in the wake of the recent terror attack on army base camp last Sunday which left 18 Indian soldiers martyred. India’s only condition is an end to terrorism.
At least 80 people have been killed in subsequent protests.
India emphasised that Pakistan had made false promises on combating terrorism over and over again, to it and to the global community.

She said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif made it clear to Secretary John Kerry that India should also be asked to take the same measures that are demanded from Pakistan.
