The delegation earlier met the Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti during which a detailed presentation was given by the state government highlighting various issues related to the current scenario in Jammu and Kashmir.

With no meetings held with some separatists during the delegation’s visit to state, reports said that the Centre planned to curtail their privileges as a response to the separatists’ snub to the delegation.

“Why should we go to them?” The violence broke out after the killing of Hizbul Mujahiddin terrorist Burhan Wani on July 8.

“When he (Rajnath) says we are open to discussion to all stakeholders, I think it means what it means”, Union minister Jitendra Singh said in a cryptic statement to reporters. In a five-page letter to the President, the group comprising former bureaucrats, judges, top police officials, journalists and educationists sought his intervention to impress upon the Centre to hold talks for resolution of the “Kashmir dispute”.

Pakistan, he said, believed that the solution to the Kashmir dispute lay with abiding by United Nations resolutions stressing the aspirations of the people of Kashmir. The minister was talking to a delegation of Kashmiri media persons here. The all-party parliamentary delegation’s call evoked mixed reactions today with opposition National Conference saying it can not lay claim to a “single achievement” but some others terming it as “significant”.

The meeting came close on the heels of Home Minister’s return from Jammu and Kashmir after wrapping up his two day visit to troubled Kashmir.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh chaired the three-hour long meeting of the parliamentarians from 20 political parties.

The Central Government feels that the State Government is treating separatists with kid gloves and have to be tough against them, they said, claiming students, parents and the middle class were getting restless and wanted the cycle of violence to end.

Terming it as a cruel joke, Panun Kashmir Chairman Ajay Chrungoo said, “They are going to doors of separatists like Syed Ali Shah Geelani who do not want a system of democracy and secularism but Shariat rule”.

“75 people have died, 1000s of civilians & security personnel have been injured and there is no sense of urgency in getting a grip on things!” he added.

“Dozens of unarmed protesters have been killed and thousands wounded, including hundreds of people blinded by pellet guns used to put down demonstrations.many schools have been closed. keeping children away from their classrooms”.
