The Ringing Bells Freedom 251 is powered by 1.3GHz quad-core and it comes with 1GB of RAM. On top of all that, it runs Android 5.1.

The primary rear camera of Freedom 251 is a 3.2-megapixel shooter wit auto-focus and LED flash, while the front-facing camera is a 0.3-megapixel snapper. With its 3G radio and housing a 1,450 mAh battery, it’s also good to know that it’s pre-installed with several apps such as Facebook, WhatsApp, Google Play and Women Safety, just to name a few.

Despite all this, Ringing Bells director Mohit Goel revealed that the company had garnered over 30,000 bookings on day one.

The launch of the Freedom 251, hailed as the “world’s cheapest smartphone”, caused company’s website to briefly crash.

“We humbly submit that we are, therefore, taking a pause and upgrading the service and will revert within or before 24 hours”, the message read. But soon the website crashed as the company’s servers couldn’t survive 6 lakh hits per second.

Ringing Bells Pvt. Ltd., with vast support from Make In India, Digital India and Skill India programmes, is well-poised to launch the most affordable smartphone ever.

Freedom 251 is a single SIM GSM smartphone. In the press release issued by Ringing Bell, it said that the smartphone will prove as a catalyst in Narendra Modi’s vision to introduce another connectivity revolution in the nation.

The much-awaited sale of Freedom 251 has begun.

The bookings for this smartphone initiated on 18th February 2016 at 6:00 AM and will continue till 21st February. Given that the company has no background in electronics, industry sceptics point to the possibility of them not delivering phones at all.
