Alluding to what rich nations needed to do to protect the environment, he made it clear that a pact reached in Paris must be one of partnership, where resources and technology are shared with poor and developing economies, so as not to deprive people who live between want and hope.
Modi asserted that the extent of developed nations’ commitment and the strength of their action must be “consistent” with the carbon space they occupy and these nations must leave enough of what is left of our carbon space to let developing countries grow. “Most of what we use comes from China”, he said.
“Yet, many are also without any source of power”, Modi said, adding that was why this alliance was so important.
The pavilion will also showcase films on adaptation measures taken up by India. “By 2030 we will reduce emissions by 35% of 2005 levels, & 40% of our installed capacity will be from non fossil fuels”.
“India has shown twice today that it is helping lead the world forward on solar and clean energy”, Coequy said.
Dr Radhakrishnan, said on August 14, from tomorrow we can not blame Britishers, whatever we do we will be responsible, said Modi.
But India is planning on the fossil-fuel grid as well. It will also mean that the developing world will also try to have a lighter carbon footprint on their growth path. He once again reiterated his plans to launch an alliance of 121 solar-rich nations in the tropics in an attempt to bring affordable solar power to remote villages, insisting: “We expect the same from the world with respect to responding to climate change”. Modi approached Sharif and had a brief chat with him, said a statement from the PM’s office.
“Energy is a basic human need”.
French President Francois Hollande, host of two weeks of U.N. talks, needs to win the support of almost 200 nations if the summit is to forge a global deal to curb climate change.
At the start of his address, Modi refereed to the horrific Paris attacks earlier this month that claimed over 120 lives. So, I speak in admiration for your resilience and resolve. “The world has assembled in Paris to change the course of our planet to a sustainable path”, Mr. Modi said.
He noted that over next few days, nations will decide the fate of this planet. Monday’s meeting also comes at a time when the Indian cricket board is awaiting permission from the government to hold a bilateral cricket series with Pakistan at the neutral venue of Sri Lanka tentatively scheduled for mid-December.

The Indian government is investing an initial 30 million dollars to set up the alliance’s headquarters in India with a goal of raising 400 million dollars from membership fees, and global agencies.
