A three-member Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising Kumble’s illustrious former teammates Sachin Tendulkar, V V S Laxman and Sourav Ganguly, interviewed 10 candidates for the job in Kolkata on Tuesday in a marathon session which lasted close to 10 hours. Recently Sanjay Banger was assigned as India’s coach for the tour to Zimbabwe and BCCI published an advertisement for team India’s Head Coach on June 1 which got the very large reply of 57 applications both from India and overseas.

“It’s not about Indian or foreign coach”, Thakur said. Anil Kumble has transformed himself from being a great cricketer and we believe that he can be a great coach.

In one year Kumble is required to prove that he is up for the task.

Kumble’s first assignment will be the upcoming four-match Test series in the West Indies, which begins next month.

The BCCi also said that the Board recognized the contribution of Team Director Ravi Shastri under whom India marched to the semi-finals in the ICC World Cup held in Australia and the ICC World T20 India 2016. I know it’s a huge challenge.

“The job is not about coaching, it is about implementing your ideas, how you can take the team forward with your tactical knowledge”.

There are rumours that Ravi Shastri, who lost the race despite having enjoyed the back up of the Captain Virat Kohli, will be accommodated for the benefit of the Indian national side.

“As for the bowling, batting or other coaches on the support staff, that announcement will be made soon”.

He was elected president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association in November 2010, served as chairman of the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore and also headed the BCCI’s technical committee from 2012 to 2015. After taking 619 wickets in test cricket and 300 wickets in One-day Internationals, he is the third highest wicket-taker.
