India loses top Test rank despite series win vs West Indies

To retain their pre-series rating points (112), India needed to win the Test series against West Indies by a margin more than 3-0 and since they failed to do so, they have now lost two points.

Pakistan has topped the MRF Tyres ICC Test Team Rankings for the first time after wet ground at the Queen Park Oval, Port of Spain, denied India the opportunity to defend the top spot which it had reclaimed from Australia on Aug 17, an ICC statement said.

“We have a good bunch of fast bowlers now”, he said.

“They’ve done very well in the last couple of months in England. and we look forward to hosting them this summer”.

However Crafton, a native of St Lucia, was proven to be overly optimistic when he suggested that a full day’s play would have been possible on Sunday. “So, those were the areas for us to solidify”, Kohli said.

Even so, all these factors make for a poor excuse for an global Test venue to not have any cricket for three days without much rainfall and with the sun shining brightly for the last two days.

Kohli provided the reasoning for the decision. “In the series against South Africa at home as well we were in trouble quite a few times because we were a batsman short”.

We must now work towards consolidating this ranking.

This was the second consecutive day when play was called off without a ball being bowled. Even if you play two spinners and two quicks, Rohit (Sharma) and (Murali) Vijay can come in and bowl 10 overs for me.

We need to be closer as coaches and understand what we try and produce for the top level. “We should be flexible”, he explained. “This is what cricketers play for and want to achieve in their careers”, Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq said.

West Indies entered the game trailing 0-2 in the series and hoping for an elusive win, in order to salvage some pride. That’s what you expect from a Test playing nation.

“This game again, we didn’t have any play, so we couldn’t control the result”, he added.

“For us, the number one ranking is not a destination but part of a journey”.

The Test team rankings are updated at the end of each series. The great West Indies team had that, the great Australia team had that, so that’s what we need here. So, I think it’s a case where you have youngsters pushing him now, and that’s good for the team.

West Indies were 62 for 2 in those 22 overs of play.

But the big Test starts when New Zealand travels to India to kick off the long home season. The first of the 13 Tests begins in Kanpur on September 22. So we can put up good totals. This team has developed this attitude and we have to keep at it if we want to become the best team in the world.
