India, Malaysia to deepen defence cooperation: Modi
Modi praised Malaysian PM for “rejecting any link between terror and religion” and providing leadership in combating extremism and radicalization.

Amongst the key areas that are to see the bilateral cooperation, defence and security would be the primary focus areas.
The new deal will enable both the countries to reduce incidents of cyber crimes and will help strengthening cyber security by combining Indian and Malaysian resources.
On the cooperative federalism, Modi said, “we are changing the way government and citizens interact with each other”.
He reaffirmed India’s active participation in the ASEAN led security dialogue and cooperation forums and said the East Asia Summit must continue to support the evolution of an inclusive, balanced, transparent and open regional architecture for security and cooperation.
“India will work with countries in the region and beyond, including the United States and Russian Federation, to ensure that our commons – ocean, space and cyber – remain avenues of shared prosperity, not become new theatres of contests”, he said, delivering the 37th Singapore Lecture.
We will engage constructively across the complexity of their relationship as to self-assured and confident nations. “We intend to exploit the full potential of our bilateral agreements and the Indian-ASEAN Agreements”.
Najib stressed that the two countries also identified new areas of cooperation to be explored that could elevate the relations to a higher level.
Najib also pointed out that many Malaysians had received their education in India, particularly in medicine. We have built a vibrant economic partnership. “We are located on the same maritime route”.
“PM Modi has indicated his desire for a G-to-G arrangement between India and Malaysia for the construction of a convention centre in Delhi.Mr. Modi is a man of action, he wants things to be implemented expeditiously, he has proven track record as chief minister and now as Prime Minister”, he added.

He said that both he and Razak were “determined to explore steps to show concrete and early results”.
“As friends bound by historical ties, it is natural that Malaysia and India continually strive to make the relations between our two countries and peoples ever deeper and stronger”, he added before opening the Torana Gate.
India and Malaysia on Monday agreed to upgrade their strategic partnership with annual meetings of the prime ministers besides regular exchanges between the trade and defence ministers of the two countries.

Tomorrow morning, Mr Modi will receive a ceremonial welcome by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the Istana, following which the Indian premier will call on President Tony Tan Keng Yam, before meeting Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong.
