India, Pakistan look to tap trade as peace dividend
“We appreciate the word praise by Pakistan Prime Minister towards our prime minister but we can not be driven away from such soft and polite words as we have already suffered in the past in the hands of the Prime Minister of Pakistan, you may recall Atal ji’s experience of starting Lahor’s bus and yet we had to face Kargil”.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s surprise visit to Pakistan has been challenged on Friday in Lahore High Court (LHC), by Muneer Ahmad through Advocate Azhar Siddique.
Two days later, India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj participated in the Heart of Asia conference in Islamabad where she also met the Pakistani prime minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs, Sartaj Aziz.
He hoped the spirit generated would continue to prevail as “goodwill gestures were solution to many an ills”. The move is being seen as New Year’s resolution of Prime Minister. An Indian prime minister visiting Pakistan after more than a decade is of great importance in itself, but for a man who is considered to be extremely hawkish when it comes to Pakistan to visit at such short notice, even for a photo-op, is quite a breakthrough.
Mr Modi and Mr Sharif in recent months had had three meetings.
Their Foreign Secretaries would be meeting in Islamabad on January 15. Foremost among them was the pressure exerted on the Indian leadership by the USA to mend relations with us as well as Indian political and economic compulsions, especially big steel companies that want to benefit from regional trade and investment.

The year 2015 ends with a positive note for Pakistan and India however honest efforts need to be taken before the two countries can make real progress in addressing the lingering issues and move forward.
