One in three smartphones was sold online and a similar proportion of devices were LTE or 4G-enabled, with their shipments doubling sequentially and increasing 25-fold year on year. “Additionally, one in two smartphones shipped in India was a phablet”, said Tarun Pathak, Senior Analyst at Counterpoint Research.

As per the Counterpoint all the Smartphones which have been sold in the country through various E-commerce platforms including Flipkart, Amazon, Snapdeal, and others, certainly showed that one out of three Smartphones sold had the LET feature in it.
The Indian LTE smartphone market is soaring at very high rates, says a new Counterpoint Research.
While Samsung increased the market share in terms of overall mobile handset shipment, they witnessed fall in terms of smartphone shipments. The Indian government’s “Make in India” campaign also saw results as the research suggested one in four mobile phones sold during the quarter was made in India.
The numbers from Counterpoint Technology Market Research show that in the 3rd quarter of this year, there were 84 million Samsung smartphones shipped, which shows a 6.3% increase same time last year. Micromax, which had a 17.7 percent share of India’s smartphone market at the end of the July – September quarter, sold more of its “Yu” brand smartphones than all of Xiaomi’s phones put together, in online sales, Counterpoint said.
Intex is number three in the list capturing close to 12 per cent of the smartphone market during the quarter, which is the first ever double digit share for the company. Samsung expanded in the mid-range market with the launch of its J series in the quarter, but lost share in the sub-USD 100 smartphone market, which is the fastest growing segment, the market researcher said. It is facing pressure in $50-$100 price segment from Intex, Lava and others. During the quarter, Micromax launched its cheapest Yu 4G model, Yunique, and the brand has been growing steadily, according to Counterpoint. Intex has even grabbed the third spot in the report, for sequentially holding its momentum from the second quarter of 2015 in both the said segments. Microsoft rounded off the fifth place in the overall handset market, with a 6.8 percent share.
Lenovo including Motorola raced to fourth position in smartphone segment, primarily due to strong sales of its K3 Note. Lenovo (including Motorola) crossed 2 million units in India for the first time.
Smartphone shipments of Xiaomi fell 46 percent due to competition from Lenovo and Micromax’s Yu brands especially in the sub-$100 segment.
