India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi Makes Surprise Visit To Pakistan
“Modi was flying back from Kabul so, behind the scenes in Lahore, they would’ve talked about Kabul, especially since the Pakistan army chief is due to visit Afghanistan in the next couple of days”, Hyder said. Padosi se aise hi rishte hone chahiyen (Relations with our neighbours should be just like this)”, Congress leader and former union minister Manish Tewari said, “This adventure of PM Modi is going to have serious implications on India’s national security. Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, who accompanied Modi to Lahore, met his Pakistani counterpart in Bangkok earlier this month.
Modi’s visit was unannounced, and when Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif greeted him on the tarmac at the Lahore airport and the men embraced, it set tongues wagging in both countries.
‘I completely reject External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj’s claim that this visit is statesman like.
“Jinnah wanted India and Pakistan to live together in peace”, he said.
Addressing the Friends of India event at the Expo Centre here on Thursday, Modi termed his visit to Russian Federation as “very successful and fruitful”.
“Among the decisions taken was that ties between the two countries would be strengthened and also people-to-people contact would be strengthened so that the atmosphere can be created in which the peace process can move forward”, Mr Chaudhry said.
“This is how this visit was suddenly planned”, he said.
The opposition Congress Party called Modi’s visit irresponsible and said that nothing had changed to warrant warming of ties between the nuclear-armed rivals that only in August canceled scheduled high-level talks after ceasefire violations across the border.
‘How many Prime Ministers or Heads of States make such detours to wish birthdays?
Hours before he left Kabul for Lahore, Modi addressed the Afghan parliament and blasted Pakistan – but without naming the country – for sponsoring terrorism in Afghanistan.
Recently, a group of Hurriyat leaders led by Geelani met Pakistan High Commi-ssioner to India Abdul Basit and asked him to maintain “consistency and firmness” in their Kashmir policy. Greater than 68,000 people have been killed within the violence, which started in 1989.
Another concern for both countries is the frequent skirmishes along their border in Kashmir. “Since there is the need to compare our notes with the regard to the directions of our cooperation.”, Russian President, Vladimir Putin said.

India has also alleged that Pakistani militants were behind terror raids on its soil this year, which Islamabad denied. “The India-Pakistan story has many hard issues lingering for decades”. Saeed lives in the open in Pakistan and often appears in TV interviews.
