India set to become world’s most populous country by 2022
Ten years ago, it was growing by 1.24 per cent per year. The report states that in Latin America, the Caribbean and in Asia, now about 11 to 12 percent of people are over the age of 60.

India will overtake China as the most-populated nation on Earth by the year 2022, according to a new study from the United Nations.
The whole world population is now 7.3 billion which has been forecasted to reach 9.7 billion by 2050 and 11.2 billion in 2100, which has surpassed earlier prediction of set UN.
The United Nations (UN) has predicted that Nigeria will have a population of 399 million in 2050, which will make it the third largest country in the world in terms of population.
“In recent years, fertility has declined in nearly all parts of the world, while life expectancy has increased significantly in the poorest countries, rising from 56 to 62 per cent since the beginning of the century, ” he said.
Bangladesh may suffer a bit from aging problem by the year 2050, slightly losing the demographic dividend of having more young population, suggests a UN report. And with the highest rate of population growth, Africa is expected to account for more than half of the world’s population growth over the next 35 years. Currently, China’s population is approximately 1.38 billion compared with 1.31 billion of India.
China’s workforce contracted for third consecutive year in 2014, with 3.7 million people retiring, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics in January.
“While the global projections should not be cause for alarm, we must recognise that the concentration of population growth in the poorest countries presents a distinct set of challenges, making it more hard to eradicate poverty and inequality, to combat hunger and malnutrition, and to expand educational enrolment and health systems”, John Wilmoth, director of the population division of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs, said in an email.

“Globally, the number of people aged 80 or over – now 125 million – is projected to more than triple by 2050 and to increase more than seven times by 2100”.
