India soldiers battle suspected militants in Kashmir
After giving an assurance of going after the perpetrators of the deadly Uri attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday gave the green signal to diplomatically isolate Pakistan at every global grouping.

Following the Pathankot attack earlier this year, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar had also said the same.
“Every time we are attacked by Pakistan-sponsored, trained and funded terrorists we adopt a week-kneed approach, but this time the Indian government should show some guts and punish those responsible for the killing of our soldiers”, he added. A senior army officer told Reuters security forces had killed between eight and ten members of the group and had set out to retrieve the bodies. He apprised John Kerry about Pakistan’s efforts in curbing terrorism and said Operation Zarb-e-Azb has broken the back of terrorists.
The shootings came two days after a deadly attack on an Indian army base, which New Delhi has blamed on its neighbour.
More than 80 civilians have been killed in protests, spearheaded by locals, that erupted after Indian security forces killed a popular Kashmiri militant leader in July.
A police post has been attacked by terrorists near Handwara. “The residents of Mahiyan when contacted over the phone said that they could hear intermittent firing but since they were confined to their homes they couldn’t say who was firing at whom”.
Regarding the fire fight underway in Uri, he said that the alert Army troops intercepted a large group of militants soon after they sneaked into Jammu and Kashmir from Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir after breaching the border fence. Four terrorists were killed in each of the operations. Kerry also “stressed the need for restraint in nuclear weapons programs”, Kirby said.

Referring to various unilateral peace initiatives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi after coming to power in May 2014 including the invitation of his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif to his swearing in ceremony and Lahore visit last December, Mr Sewhani said Islamabad had interpreted these overtures as India’s weakness. Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister said partnership between Pakistan and U.S. is imperative for regional stability.
