India thrash Pakistan 6-2 to win Junior Men’s Asia Cup hockey

Kim Sung-yeob had put South Korea 2-0 ahead with goals in the 18th and 41st minutes before Ahmad Shakeel Butt forced the game into a penalty shootout with his own brace in the 46th and 70th minutes.

India’s junior men’s hockey team beat Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2015 final to lift its 8th edition on Sunday.

The win in the pool meeting will defintely give a psychological advantage to India over their opponents.

The semi-final victory was also India’s second in the tournament against Japan, having beaten them at the group league stage. Yamada doubled Japan’s lead through a penalty and wrapped up the match by scoring a third goal in the 68th minute.

India drew first blood after only 10 minutes with Harmanpreet firing home their first penalty corner.

Pakistan struck back in the 28th minute with a field goal by Muhammad Yaqoob before Harmanpreet completed his hat-trick in the 30th minute with India finishing the first-half with a comfortable 3-1 lead.

Harmanpreet Singh was the top scorer with four goals, Armaan Qureshi and Manpreet chipped in with a goal each.

Mohamed Yacoob scored a second goal in the 67th minute for Pakistan, but it was too little too late to save the match.

Earlier, South Korea edged Japan 2-1 to clinch the bronze medal.

The Pakistan-South Korea game will be just as interesting.
