Brathwaite said it was always a good feeling to emerge victorious especially when “you can watch someone you look up to, someone that you see ideal their craft at practice, day in day out; you see them come out trumps especially a double bluff or something against the grain, such as the slow ball that Bravo bowled”.

An unfazed Charles though flicked Shami for another six with the strength of his wrist and followed it up with consecutive boundaries.

They were hammered all over the park but Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni feels his bowlers were not all that bad on what was a “batters’ paradise” in the first Twenty20 against West Indies which his team lost by a run here.

The second T20 of the two-match series might have ended up being a damp squib, as rain ruined India’s chances of levelling the series on Sunday, but MS Dhoni was still upbeat about playing in the USA, after a sizeable crowd came down to watch two of the biggest teams in Twenty20 cricket in action over the weekend.

“That was the plan and we just kept hitting well”.

Leg-spinner Amit Mishra, who came in as a replacement for Stuart Binny, was the star of the Indian bowling attack claiming three wickets for 24 runs.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar (67th) and Mohammad Shami (82nd) were the others to move up the bowlers’ rankings for India.

With India needing 33 from the last three, Rahul got to his century with a brilliant six and then struck a four off the very next ball. West Indies won the series 1-0 by virtue of their one-run victory in the first T20I. “If I got the balls in my scoring areas I put them away”. West Indies batsmen, who had scouraged the Indian bowlers in the first match, today found the going tough and were bowled out in 19.4 overs. The change paid off as Mishra removed unsafe Johnson Charles with his first delivery, in sixth over of the innings. Charles looked to get across and play a lap sweep but missed it completely as the stumps were disturbed. The absence of a super sopper forced the match to be called off and denied India a chance to level the series. “This will be a great opportunity for the cricket fans in America to watch the two champion sides in action”.

US witnessed West Indies batting charisma as openers Johnson Charles (79) and Evin Lewis (100) hammered Indian bowlers all-round the park to post massive 245 runs for the loss of six wickets.
