A police spokesperson said security forces stopped demonstrators from marching on the main streets by firing tear smoke shells and shotgun pellets at the stone-throwing protestors.
Anti-government and pro-freedom protests also took place in various areas across the valley, including the Srinagar city.
For the last 55 days, life has remained totally paralysed in the Valley due to curfew and protest shutdown called by the separatists. The reimposition comes after separatists extended their protest shutdown till September 8.
Protestors set ablaze the house of a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Rajya Sabha member, Nazir Laway, in Chawalgam village of Kulgam district in south Kashmir, some 60 km from here. “The heavy deployment of security forces at some places is to maintain law and order”, a police official said.
In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyet Conference, the forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Hurriyet leaders have condemned the killing of a youth, Danish Manzoor, and use of brute force on protesters by Indian forces in the territory.
The APHC in a statement issued in Srinagar said that there was no justification of use of force on peaceful protesters particularly on a mass public gathering in Sogam area of Kupwara.
Authorities had lifted curfew from the entire Valley on Wednesday after 53 days since the unrest started on July 9. At least 145 people were reported injured. At least 40 protestors received injuries when security forces fired pellets to disperse them.
Sopore town also witnessed clashes between protesters and security forces after the latter allegedly did not allow the fruit dealers to load the apple produce onto trucks for delivery terminal markets outside the state. They have asked the people to barricade all roads, including the Airport road, on September 3 and 4.
