Meanwhile, inclement weather at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) has forced the authorities to delay or cancel flights on several sectors.

Budget passenger carrier SpiceJet, too, cancelled all its flights to Dubai which were to be operated on Thursday.

Emirates said the plane, which was en route to Dubai from a city in southern India, had an “operational incident” while landing.

An airport source told Express that global flights were delayed by two to six hours.

Many flights operate between Delhi and Dubai, a major aviation hub in the region.

The airlines said this was primarily as Dubai airport has announced limited operations up to August 5.

When their plane crash-landed at the Dubai airport, sliding on its belly to a halt before going up in flames, some of the passengers on the Emirates flight tried to pull out their bags from overhead bins despite the emergency.

A Dubai Airports statement said that flights have resumed but arrivals and departures are restricted as only one of the airport’s two runway is in use.

It is letting passengers affected by the disruptions cancel or rebook their tickets for free.

The airline cancelled 27 flights Wednesday because of the accident and delayed and rescheduled others, affecting travel plans for 23,000 passengers.

Overall, Dubai Airports said that a total of 116 arriving and 121 departing flights were cancelled and 44 inbound flights were diverted to neighbouring airports.

There was no problem during the flight, Bhaskar said. The Boeing B 777-300 plane which was involved in the accident was 13 years old.
