Five shots were fired at him from extremely close range near Siwan’s railway station.
One of the bullets, according to report, hit Ranjan on the head and another on the neck.
He was dead by the time he was brought to the local hospital. They shot him twice resulting in his death on the spot.
A senior journalist with national hindi daily Rajdeo Ranjan was killed in Siwan on Friday by some unidentified assailants.
RJD chief Lalu Yadav who was campaigning nearby for a by-poll election, also visited Ranjan’s residence and ordered a thorough probe into the matter. On Saturday last, 19-year-old Aditya was shot dead in Gaya by Rocky Yadav, son of JD (U) MLC Manorma Devi, for overtaking his auto.
Chief Minister Raghubar Das condemned the incident and asked DGP D K Pandey to arrest the culprits at the earliest.
Nine journalists were killed in India a year ago and the country ranked an abysmal 133 among 180 countries in the latest World Press Freedom Index.
Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi was quick lay blame, saying “The Bihar CM [Nitish Kumar] should take steps to salvage the law and order situation at home instead of frequently making trips to nurse his political ambitions”.
