Indian PM reaches out to Sonia Gandhi, greeting her on 69th birthday
Alleging political vendetta in the National Herald case, senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Saturday accused Finance Minister Arun Jaitley of indicating to the income tax department issue of notice to his party in the case. “We have full faith in the judiciary (to come clean in the National Herald case)”.

He said “who is threatening judiciary we all know” hitting out at PM Modi.
The escalation of confrontation between the Congress and the government over “political vendetta”, following decision of a court to summon its leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi on a complaint of BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, appears to have caused uncertainty on the fate of the crucial GST bill.
With repeated disruptions stalling legislation including the GST or Goods and Services Tax, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said it was a “matter of sorrow” that Parliament was not running.
Citing corruption cases against Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and Ashok Gehlot in Rajasthan, party leader Mallikarjun Kharge attacked the government over its “vendetta politics”, claiming that it applied one set of laws against its leaders and another for those from BJP.
The politically sensitive National Herald case, in a nutshell, is that a political party – Congress – collects funds for political objective, gets tax exemption but through multiple transactions those funds reportedly have been transferred to a trust and then to a company that is closely held.
He said neither the government nor parliament could help the Congress in this matter. The Congress have called the case a “proxy litigation” and alleged “political vendetta” by the NDA government. “It is not for profit company, and it is a legal issue that we will deal with legally”, he told reporters.
At one point, when some Congress members were standing in front of the Prime Minister while facing the Chair, Union Minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy asked them shift from there, which they agreed.
“We have just defeated our opponents in Bihar”.
“Thirty-six per cent share in it is of Rahul Gandhi and 36 per cent of Sonia Gandhi…” “There can not be a bigger insult to country’s democracy and judiciary”.
Rahul Gandhi, who interacted with women entrepreneurs in Guwahati and addressed grass-roots workers of the Congress said his party would return to power in Assam in the next assembly elections. Or, is the reaction about the Delhi high court’s refusal to exempt the Congress president and vice president from appearing before a trial court?
