Indian Premier League 6: World’s Most Expensive Sports League

From the time Indian premier league has been established by BCCI in 2007 it has gained the huge popularity from all over the world. In season 2013, sixth season of Indian Premier League is in progress that was started on 3rd of April with the grand opening ceremony head at Salt Lake Stadium that is located in Kolkata. First time PepsiCo got the title sponsorship, from the time IPL came in picture.

Earlier to this season DLF Ltd was the main response of IPL but this time PepsiCo has replaced DLF Ltd. DLF ended his contact with IPL that was signed for five years for 250 Cr. New response ship that is signed with Pepsi Co is of 396.8 Crore (around 80 billion USD) That lasted for five years till 2017. However, the brand value of IPLS has fallen in 2010 that is currently $2.9 billion. PepsiCo has conveyed the media that they are looking to earn 4 to 5 time of the money they invested in sponsorship.

Team Participated in IPL6 And Players Costing:

In present there are in total nine teams participating IPL6. Name of teams with their respective captains are such as, Chennai super kings with Capitan MS Dhoni, Mumbai Indians in Captaincy of Ricky Ponting , Rajasthan Royals in Captaincy of Rahul Dravid, Royal Challengers Bangalore with Capitan Virat Kohli, Sunrisers Hyderabad with Capitan Kumar Sangakkara, Kolkata Knight Riders in Captaincy of Gautam Gambhir, Kings XI Punjab with Capitan Adam Gilchrist, Pune Warriors India with Capitan Yuvraj Singh and Delhi Daredevils with Capitan Virender Sehwag.

Players keep Glenn Maxwell from Australia in the player who was sold for highest price of 10,00,000 USD for Mumbai Indians.  Maxell has scored around 197 runs and also taken four wickets in 9 one day matches for Australia. He is a good sticker and can easily grab important wicket by off-spin specialty.  He has collected 47 runes and taken five wickets. It will be interesting to see if he gets a chance to show his abilities or not as Mumbai Indian team is already full of all rounder players.

The second highest money went to Mystery Man named Ajantha Mendis who belongs from Shrilanka.  He was bought by Pune Warriors for $7,25,000. Similarly another shrilankan named Thissara Perera who was selected for Sunrises Hyderabad for $6,75,000. Beside this two big names from Australia Rickey Ponting as well as Michael Clarke were sold on their base price that is 40,000USD.

What makes IPL Most Expensive?

IPL is always the major point of attraction from the time it starts. As most of the big names from business industries and Bollywood are mainly involved in IPL from starting till end. Beside this, auction of players is also making this event unique as well as demanding. Nowadays most of the big band are looking IPL from business point of view and this lead them a business opportunity as well. Big price money that is awarded to winner of IPL6 is also one of the main points of attraction.

This fast format of Indian cricket is becoming fever among Indians. IPL has announced to award 10 Crore (More than 2 billion USD) Rupees to the winner as well as 7.5 crore Rupees to its runner-up. Beside this there is also price money of 3.75Cr to number fourth and fifth placed team.
