The unprovoked firing and shelling prompted the troops guarding the borderline to retaliate effectively.

He said earlier Pakistan fired in this sector from 0100 hrs to 0110 hrs. The firing and shelling is going on nearly on a daily basis, violating the border ceasefire which came into operation in November 2003. “No casualty or damage reported”, the spokesman said.

Indian security forces have committed 37 and 24 unprovoked cease fire violations on the LoC and the Working Boundary in July and August respectively, according to the Foreign Ministry.

The Hamirpur, Krishnagati and Sabzian sectors in Poonch have been targeted by Pakistan troops for the past three days, possibly to facilitate infiltration from across the border.

India and Pakistan have disputed the Jammu and Kashmir region since the end of British rule in 1947.

“Pakistan army fired at our positions on the LoC in Balakote sector of Rajouri district using 82mm, automatic weapons and small arms, defence spokesman, Col. Manish Mehta told IANS here”.

A youth was killed and two others, including a BSF jawan, were injured when Pakistani troops had targeted border outposts and hamlets along the global Border in four sectors of Kanachak, Pargwal, Tawi and RS Pura in Jammu district on August 4.
