Following the suicide attack on an army base in Uri which killed 18 soldiers, the debate over how it can be respond to has stirred once again in India. One soldier too has been killed in the operation. Immediately after the militants entered the camp, explosions and exchange of heavy fire were heard from inside, official sources said. “The area has been cordoned off and all escape routes have been sealed”, a source told Mirror.
“Pakistani troopers resorted to heavy gunfire with small and automatic fire arms from across the Line of Control”.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh held a separate meeting with his ministry officials to review the situation and asked them to coordinate with other border states like Punjab, Rajasthan and Gujarat to prevent any infiltrations from Pakistan side.
Informed sources said that the NIA team, led by a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) rank officer, is waiting for a nod to visit the site of the terror attack in Uri. “There were at least 15 who tried to cross over”.
The bodies have not yet been recovered, they added.
In January, seven military personnel were killed when six terrorists attacked the Pathankot air base.
Pakistan however has flatly rejected New Delhi’s claims of Islamabad’s involvement in the Uri terror attack, saying the latter has a traditional tendency of pointing fingers on the former after each terror attack on Indian soil.
The NIA took over the probe from the J&K Police, which had registered a case on Sunday.

Russian Federation on Monday condemned the terror attack on an army camp in Jammu and Kashmir and said it is “concerned about the fact that, according to New Delhi, the army base was attacked from Pakistani territory”. Kerry also “stressed the need for restraint in nuclear weapons programs”, Kirby said.
