Indiana Gov. Mike Pence declares September Preparedness Month

Parents should know their children’s school emergency plan and how to react if the plan is activated.

The CDC Office of Public Health Preparedness and Response is inviting pediatricians to participate in a Twitter chat at 2 p.m. ET September 16. When developing the plan, walk through the home and look at all exits and possible escape routes, including windows. “And we’re going to put these measures in place.’ Well, why didn’t the measures get put in place before?” said Tucker. All households should practice their plan at least twice a year.

Officials have three main points: be informed, make a plan, and build a kit. Many shelters might not be able to accommodate pets.

Be prepared for an emergency will be the theme in Court Square on September 9 at 9:30 a.m. when Mayor Domenic J. Sarno is expected to proclaim National Preparedness Month, and first responders and others will be on hand to discuss how to get prepared.

Since 2007, CERT, a volunteer organization, has operated under the direction of the Town of Fairfield Emergency Management Director who is also the Fire Chief. A release from the Governor’s office said the proclamation calls on the state’s citizens to create disaster preparedness kits in case emergency supplies are needed during times of evacuations or prolonged power outages.
