Indiana State Fair Ends on Record Day

The last day of the Indiana State Fair brought record numbers of people to the fairgrounds, but they couldn’t stop the 2016 season from lower overall attendance than past year.

Just 731,543 fairgoers passed through the gates, a almost 20 percent drop from the 907,342 who came a year ago.

Amburgey uploaded the footage to Vimeo Sunday, along with several other ones. Fair officials say almost 4 inches of rain and an average heat index near 90 degrees are to blame for the lower attendance.

The troopers, who weren’t named, enjoyed the “Summer Days” on the fair’s final day.

The Indiana State Fair Commission says an average heat index of 87 degrees and nine days of rain led to a decrease in attendance at this year’s Indiana State Fair.

About 15,000 people took the Fair Train to the event last year, but the train was shut down this year due to safety reasons.

Indiana State Fairgrounds and Event Center executive director Cindy Hoye said “this fair we got a glimpse of what a farmer can deal with during a season with less than favorable weather”. Last year’s fair was the fifth-largest attended fair with more than 907,000 total visitors.
