The incident started when the homeowner’s wife reported that a man confronted her at their home in the 3600 block of Foxtail Drive, pointed a gun at her head and demanded her auto keys.

It all started around 4:30 a.m. when police got word of an attempted carjacking in the 3600 block of Foxtail drive, RTV6 reports.

In the 911 call, the homeowner, identified as Carl Williams, 48, can be heard comforting his wife who sounded distraught. “Officers weren’t initially sure if the suspect was still with the vehicle”.

“Female victim apparently was returning home from work; at one point, the victim was threatened with a weapon”.

The officers “sought cover in an attempt to approach in a covert manner to investigate the vehicle”, police said in a later news release.

It’s unclear if the officer gave any commands to the armed homeowner before shooting him.

The homeowner’s name has not yet been released, and police said the shooting remains under investigation and will be presented before a grand jury.

At that point, the officer involved, 9-year veteran Christopher Mills, drove up to the house with his lights off to hide his vehicle, which police say is common protocol. He was hospitalized in stable condition and is expected to survive, police said. The officer involved was placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure. The suspect left the victims’ auto in the driveway and fled the scene.

Taylor says the shooting circumstances remained under investigation. “Just an unfortunate occurrence”.
