About 8 p.m., southeast district officers were called to the 6700 block of Valley Ridge Drive, in the Overlook at Valley Ridge apartments, regarding the disturbance; however, since the disturbance involved an IMPD officer, the department’s special investigation unit (SIU) was requested to handle the case.
Police say an IMPD detective was investigating a domestic violence allegation between an 18-year department veteran and his estranged wife. Richard Riddle told WISH. No other details about that investigation were provided.
CNN reports the suspect was in an “active shooter” standoff with police on I-75 in Cincinnati early Saturday morning.
The detective was in plain clothes at the time of the attack and suffered an injury to his arm, IMPD Maj.
The investigating officer is in good condition.
Shortly before 2 a.m., Indianapolis police learned the off-duty officer was engaged in a standoff situation 100 miles away with Cincinnati police on the Brent Spence Bridge.
The officer was eventually taken into custody. It wasn’t immediately clear whether he exchanged further gunfire with Cincinnati police.
When a police officer arrived at the apartment on the south side of Indianapolis, the suspect began shooting.
The suspect fled in his personal vehicle. On Monday, police fired off 200 rounds in a shootout with a suspect who allegedly shot a cop.

That officer was taken to the hospital, and released the following day.
